    Hello & Welcome to ESL!

wave  I am so excited to work with you and your child this year! Please feel free to click around my website to learn about me and my procedures.  If there is specific information that you are looking for and cannot find it, please email me at khendrick@umasd.org and I will be happy to answer any questions!

I am looking forward to a successful and fun 2024-2025 school year.  I believe in building strong family relationships in my classroom and cannot wait to get to know your child and your family.  I welcome parents ANYTIME into the classroom and can always use your help!

Please feel free to contact me at any time. Email is the best way to get ahold of me throughout the day.   I will get back to you as soon as possible. If there is an urgent message, please contact the office and they will be able to relay any messages to me. My classroom phone does not receive calls during school hours EXCEPT from the office. It will go right to voicemail and I do not get many opportunities throughout the day to check this. So please do not rely on this.

    all about me

Teaching Experience:  I am new to the ESL position this year!  I have been teaching first grade in the Upper Merion Area School District for the past 11 years. This is my seventh year at Gulph Elementary School.  Before coming to Gulph, I taught at Bridgeport Elementary School for 4 years and at Candlebrook Elementary School for 1 year.  For two of these years, I co-taught with an ESL specialist and learned a lot about working with our ESL students.  Prior to teaching first grade, I worked for the Upper Merion Area School District for several years, where I was a per diem, short-term, long-term, and building substitute.

Other Experiences: I coached our Girls on the Run (GOTR) program for four years (for 3rd and 4th grade girls).  I have also taught the (FREE) adult ESL classes offered by the district for several years.  If you are interested in either of these programs please reach out to me for information. I also have experience tutoring children as well as instructed for both LIFT and the Homework Club.

Education: I earned dual Bachelor's of Science degrees in both Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Millersville University in 2007.  I earned my English as a Second Language (ESL) specialist certificate from West Chester University in 2020, and my Masters Degree for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages also from West Chester University in 2024.

Home Life: I was born and raised in West Chester, PA and I currently still reside there. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, visiting my childhood vacation home in Long Beach Island, traveling, reading, fishing, going to concerts, and cooking. I am the middle child and have two brothers, one of which is also a teacher in Florida.
