Hello! My name is Melissa Strausser (formerly Wanamaker) and I'm so excited to be your child's First Grade Teacher! This will be my tenth year teaching first grade, but I also taught kindergarten too!  When I was in elementary school, I actually went to Candlebrook myself. I graduated from Upper Merion in 2008 and went on to study Elementary Education at West Chester University. I obtained my Master's degree in Social Emotional Learning in 2019 from Neumann University and currently still taking more courses to further my education through Immaculata University. It has been an absolute dream to work collaboratively with the amazing faculty at Candlebrook. We really are a family.

My goal is to create a safe, fun learning environment and foster a love for learning in each child.  I will use my creativity to provide a variety of lessons that will allow for positive student interaction and hands-on learning experiences. We will explore, create and innovate together! I also believe in a strong school-home connection, so please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have at any time.

E-mail is the best way to contact me as I check my e-mail several times a day and throughout the night.  My e-mail address is  MStrausser@umasd.org .  You can also reach me by phone here at school, but will need to leave a message on voice mail if school is in session. You may also send in a written note.  To better ensure that I receive it, please place it in your child’s homework folder. I check those every morning.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year ahead with you and your child. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.  No question is too small! Let’s work together to make this a fantastic year!
